Danforth Village may be well known for its festival each summer that celebrates all things Greek, but this neighbourhood in Toronto is usually at the top of house hunters’ lists for a long list of reasons.

Danforth Village is well known for its shopping district along Danforth Avenue. The Danforth’s many shops and restaurants reflect the multicultural flavour of the residents who live in this neighbourhood. The relative affordability of the houses in Danforth Village, together with the convenience of the Bloor-Danforth subway line make the Coxwell and Danforth neighbourhood and are an excellent choice for first time home buyers.

Living in the Danforth Village Neighbourhood

Did you know that Toronto’s East-end landmark known as “The Danforth”, is the largest Greek neighbourhood in North America? The Grecian influence and culture, displayed in both subtle and more overt ways, exudes a friendly and welcoming vibe. Close proximity to the downtown core, a mix of trendy and traditional shopping as well as a huge selection of amazing restaurants are all great reasons to consider The Danforth as a potential long-term home.

During the summer months, the sidewalks are overflowing with colourful planters, fresh local produce, and all year round you’ll find an active community that tends to support those around them. Every weekend you’ll find couples strolling, parents chasing toddlers, singles cycling and dogs stopping for friendly bowls of water as they all make their way down the long, vibrant Danforth strip.

Danforth Village is also right in the center of the easiest commuter pocket on the East side of town. You’ll find Greenwood, Coxwell, Woodbine and Main subway stations, and the Danforth GO train, which zips you to Union in no time at all. Need to go to the airport? Simply transfer to the UP Express and you’re on your way with no traffic in sight.

The Danforth is great for young families, because of the abundance of activities right at their doorstep. Monarch Park (a 5-hectare park near Coxwell and Danforth Avenues) has an outdoor pool with a two-storey waterslide, wading pool and a children’s playground. East Lynn Park also has outdoor skating, ample green space as well as an amazing organic outdoor market. The playground is perfect for playdates or quiet morning outings with coffee.
