The neighbourhood of Yonge and Eglinton has long been one of the top destinations for young professionals in Toronto. But still today, it’s a bustling hub of activity that includes restaurants, drinking destinations, shopping, cafes and some of the best new pre-construction condo developments Toronto has seen in quite some time.
Known for being the most connected community in Toronto, one of the main draws to this area is its accessibility to public transit. Some condo buildings give you direct access to the TTC, making the winter commute bearable with just a light jacket – no snow boots needed.
Real Estate at Yonge and Eglinton
The Yonge and Eglinton area boasts family-centred neighbourhoods alongside a growing condo and pre-construction culture – both are filled with young professionals just starting out in their careers and couples who are just starting a family and don’t want to lose that urban lifestyle. There are also a lot of older, active adults on the move, with a lot of upscale and posh residences in the area. There are plenty of benefits to living at Yonge & Eglinton – you’re right next to one of the busiest hubs of the city, but the side streets are tree-lined, quaint and quiet. You have direct access to the TTC, which makes Toronto and the surrounding GTA your oyster – you can live and play at Yonge & Eglinton but work anywhere in the city and commute with ease.
With nearly 75% of residents renting in this area, it’s a prime destination for investors looking to get into the pre-construction condo game. One of our favourite pre-construction developments is Line 5 Condos by Reserve & Westdale Properties. The two planned buildings will house 701 units – the first will be 33-storeys tall and the other 36-storeys.
Line 5 promises to address the “fundamental changes in the way Torontonians live their lives” through technology and thoughtful design — with a dedicated ride-share pick-up space, and hot and cold storage in the lobby for online food orders. A highlight of the building has to be the 9th floor that includes a pool, dining and BBQ area, shared workspace, networking areas and quiet library area for residents to enjoy.
Another recent launch that’s getting plenty of attention is Untitled Condos. This will be one of the premiere launches in early 2020, and is brought to you by the same developers as Line 5 Condos. Interior Designer will be led and curated by U31, while the IBI Group will lead architecture. Landscape architecture will be curated by Brook McIlroy.
Untitled Condos will have unmatched amenities found in the Yonge and Eglinton neighbourhood. 34,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space is planned and will include:
- Indoor/Outdoor Pool
- Spa
- Indoor/Outdoor Co-Work Space
- State of the Art Gym
- Basketball Court
- Rooftop Dining with Barbecue & Pizza Ovens
Restaurants at Yonge and Eglinton
There is no shortage of fantastic restaurants in this trendy Midtown Toronto neighbourhood, but it’s also possible to find outstanding grab-and-go sushi and delicious take-out Indian for those late work nights.
One of our absolute favourites is located just south of the Yonge and Eglinton intersection, and if you’re looking for authentic, delicious middle Eastern food, put Tabule on the top of your list. Start your dinner off with the trio of Hummus, Babaganuj and Labni, and enjoy it with the fresh baked-in-house pita bread. Follow that up with the Fattush Salad and one of the main dish plates from the grill and you’ll be leaving happy. Don’t forget the assorted pickles with your apps and the Kunafa Ashta for dessert. Trust.
Other notable spots include Grazie Restaurante – a staple in the area for many years, serving incredible Italian – the place is always busy and serves a great lunch in addition to dinner, for those who may work in the area. A newcomer to the neighbourhood which should be added to your must-eat list is Little Sister. This Indonesian Food Bar is the only authentic Indonesian Eatery in the ‘hood, and the flavours cannot be beat. We recommend grabbing a seat at the bar and let the amazing bartenders help drive your order – it’s the perfect spot for a first date or after work nibbles and drinks.
With so much to offer, we can see why many clients and first-time-buyers always ask about Yonge and Eglinton. We see this area continuing to develop with many new pre-construction buildings, offering many options for families, young couples or those entering the professional workforce for the first time.
